The self-titled debut rocketed it’s way into radio stations playlists, onto many Top 50 album of the year lists and on to all sorts of nerdy lists not even worth naming. It’s easy to hear why. The Pains..unleashed last years best indie-pop album declaring openly their influences to be indie bands like Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Shop Assistants and all that obscure yet great mid 80s stuff lumped in with this C86 thing. Right, let’s hope they start listening to The Clean and all that obscure 80s stuff from New Zealand then we can get the obscuromitor out. And then…

Yes, anything good happening in New York will likely end up on that label and since The Pains…dropped by in June ’09 to NBI we’ll never live without them…and the Vivian Girls who played a day later I remember…sigh, ok, ok, Vivians flashbacks over.
